Councillors
Chairman
Specific Responsibilities: Finance
I have lived in the village since July 1999. Shepton is such a friendly, supportive village – I often say it takes me 30 minutes to walk a 10-minute journey as there are so many people who stop and chat (which I love!). My husband David is a member of the Events team, and I usually support these events in the background.
We have 5 adult children, and 6 grandchildren who keep us busy.
I love to cook, plus I create patchwork quilts, and knitting is also a favourite hobby. Plus, of course, gardening.
I wanted to become a councillor so I may be able to give something back to a village which has given so much.
Specific Responsibilities: Planning, 100 Club.
Ed and his wife Kath have lived in the village for nearly 15 years, although he grew up in and around Shepton Beauchamp and so has had a connection all his life, which has given him a passion for the village.
He is very passionate about keeping Shepton’s history alive, so likes to be able to express opinions when planning applications come up, and any other relevant alterations, not just to preserve Shepton’s history but also allow it to move with the times. He believes that we need to have a diverse spread of knowledge and opinions within our councillors to allow Shepton to thrive and prosper.
Specific Responsibilities: Planning, Footpaths
Angie has lived in Shepton Beauchamp for 23 years and wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. She is passionate about the village and involved in the Church, the singing group, her partner Tom is on the Events Team and she is also one of the Trustees of the Village Hall Committee.
Her son attended the wonderful village school and the village has a wonderful community spirit. We all look after each other.
She wanted to join the Parish Council to continue to support the village in different aspects from the above. It is a very positive team of people.
Specific Responsibilities: Planning, Communications/Publicity, Newsletter Editor, Defibrillator.
Andrew has lived in Shepton Beauchamp all his life as have generations before. Married to Fi, a former Parish Councillor, they share their house with their two daughters and a Wire Haired Vizsla, called Pippin.
He joined the Council in 2017 having been approached by the then Chair, and has played an active role since. Andrew has a genuine interest in the village and countryside pursuits and is very keen to see it progress and improve for all generations to enjoy without losing the special charm, feel and character that has been created over the years
Specific Responsibilities: Planning, Highways, Footpaths.
Vice-Chairman
David was born in Darlington, County Durham, and was brought up in London and East Africa. He studied zoology and disease control at university and worked as an environmental and agricultural consultant for the UK government and the United Nations
He retired in 2013 and moved to Shepton Beauchamp with his wife,
Marianne Nord, from Oxfordshire in 2014. He is an active member of the
Cowleaze Meadow support group and a Rights of Way Volunteer with
Somerset Council.
As a member of the Parish Council, he looks forward to liaising with the Cowleaze Meadow support group, maintaining Rights of Way and addressing other environmental concerns.
Specific Responsibilities: Planning, Environment & Trees, Representative on Cowleaze Project, Speed Indicator Device.
Tim grew up in the village and then studied Geography at university before moving away in his early 20s to pursue his career in IT Consultancy. He moved back to Shepton Beauchamp in 2016 with his young family the oldest two of which are currently attending the village school.
Having grown up here in a family that has a long history in the village Tim recognises the strong character and history the village has while understanding this has to be balanced against the ever-changing world we live in for the benefit of all in our community.
Specific Responsibilities: Planning, Lethbridge Recreation Ground, Communications/Publicity.
Nick has lived in the village for just over 6 years with his wife Abi and their 2 dogs.
He is not a stranger to the area though having spent over 30 years in the Fleet Air Arm with many years based around Somerset and Dorset.
His interests in the council are primarily the allotments and improving access for those with reduced mobility.
Specific Responsibilities: Planning, Allotments, Newsletter Editor.
